NEED TO KNOW:
THE AUGUST ISSUE
Welcome to August’s issue of NEED TO KNOW, the rundown of the top 10 activities, trends & brands for the month ahead. On our agenda: premium denim and iconic indie bands…
Everybody’s favorite moody and gloomy indie band is back with a brand new record and American tour. From Vegas to Florida, Interpol will be showcasing the sounds of their classic anthems as well as their latest effort, El Pintor.
2. CAYLER & SONS
The brand – which was only founded in 2012 - specializes in street inspired headwear with altered graphics for a humorous twist. If you love your new brands, then this is about as fresh as it gets.
3. SELVEDGE DENIM
Topman introduces a touch of premium with selvedge denim. The word selvedge comes from ‘self-edge’, this means the denim edges are woven with a clean finish and will not unravel. The hem stitching also makes for great detailing.
4. BUCKLE UP
Combining a sporty sole with heritage-inspired double monk straps, transitional footwear doesn't get any better than these smart-casual sneakers. The burgundy upper is also the ideal color to carry you into fall.
5. TOPMAN LTD
The new Topman LTD range consists of French cycling themed pieces, following on from the hype of the Tour de France. With contrast vests and knitted shirts, the collection boasts an authentic retro feel. So please don’t fall off your bike in these.
6. IN BLOOM
It’s all about making a statement with your bottom half this season, which is brilliantly demonstrated by Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil and his Topman floral pants. If you enjoy going topless in public, we completely support you. But if not, we suggest adding a plain white tee.
Some say mixing both style and comfort is impossible. We say those people are wrong. Add some texture to your look with neoprene, it’s addictively touchable and gives off a luxurious streetwear feel.
8. THINK PINK-ISH
Guys need not be afraid, as shades of pink are a perfect accent of color for high summer. We’re not talking Barbie style, we’re suggesting understated pink hues in light knits, shirts and t-shirts. Trust us, you won’t regret it.
9. SHEER KNITWEAR
Longing to wear knitwear but can’t stand the 20 degree plus heat? Then the answer is sheer! It’s a lightweight alternative to heavy knitwear and a great transitional piece when we head in to fall.
10. OUTDOOR CINEMA
Spend a night under the stars and with the stars this summer by visiting a classic American pastime – the outdoor cinema. One of our favourites is the West Wind Drive-In in Santa Barbara, which is showing all the talked about summer blockbusters at a great price.
